Sword of Orion Region (Test)

First Sword of Orion Region shot for the winter season of 2011. I have big plans for this set of objects and this is a test shot taken tonight. Come January, I'll be working on using multiple exposures to make a better composite shot of this region... This image is about 25 minutes of 5 minute exposures at ISO500.

Nice one Phil. Same target as I did last weekend.

Thanks, folks! I like your shot, Jon! By the way I added your page to my links list. Cheers!

It looks like you're off to a good start. This is a surprisingly difficult object to image because of its high dynamic range. Multiple exposures will do the trick, though!

I look forward to the bigger project! This one is pretty nice as it is, though. Val

Thanks Rory and Val! My aim is to take several series of shots of this area with different exposure settings, then merge them to bring out that dynamic range. I've seen others do it so this winter it's my turn to give it a go. Thanks!
