All Eyes on Kepler...

Today could be the start of a very important journey towards finding additional extra-solar planets. NASA will shortly launch its Kepler spacecraft. This craft that possess detection equipment sensitive enough to detect smaller, Earth-like planets orbiting stars up to thousands of light years away.

There is an awful lot of buzz within the scientific community about this mission. A lot of folks think that it has the potential to reveal the presence of many, many terrestrial planets (i.e. planets that are around the same size or slightly larger than our own Earth) which may also reside within distances from their parent stars that may make them candidates for life. Keep your eyes on this one...
