Fireball!!!
While I was driving home from the gas station tonight, I observed a very large firebill/bolide streak across the sky. Time was 9:06PM local (US CST) and it moved from north to northwest. Very large, very green~ish and it split into two before fading away. This was while driving, in the city, with a near full moon in the sky. It must have been pretty big! It was an amazing sight and quite a treat.

Saw it, from South Austin but did not see it slit. It was awesome!
It was really bright, wasn't it? A couple of cars in front of me on the highway slowed down I saw it, so I wondered of they noticed it, too? Glad you saw it!
Actually it was a chunk of an asteroid!!

Hi Niteskygirl - well, my observation was from Tuesday night. I wonder if the two are related, though...
Was this viewable from the South Eastern states?
Hi NikkiNebula - not sure!! The one I saw was last Tuesday night and wasn't the big one reported throughout the southwest.
