M46 & NGC2437

First time at this, and I shot it within a bit of spare time tonight after trying to image the Horsehead nebula (more on that later!)

You can clearly see the NGC2437 planetary nebula here. Not too bad!

  • Imaging Camera: Nikon D7000
  • Guiding Scope: William Optics 66mm Petzval Refractor
  • Guiding Camera: Meade DSI-C
  • Mount: Celestron CGEM
  • Exposures: 3 * 5 minute lights
  • ISO 400
  • Aligned and Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker
  • Post-Processing in GIMP (contrast, saturation and unsharp mask)

  1. Excellent rendition, Phil! Congratulations on a nice capture! The star colors are very nice, and that little planetary came out nicely resolved and nicely colored. Looks like OIII!

  2. Thanks, Val! I have loved looking at this object visually and was chuffed to see the end result after my imaging session. I did shoot it through part of the Austin light dome, so a better shot awaits later in the year...
