RIP Steve Irwin

Steve Irwin just died in Australia, apparently by being stung by either a jellyfish or stingray during the shooting of a documentary in Queensland, Australia.

While often seen as a bit of a silly character by many Aussies at home and abroad, he did do well to promote Australia and animal conservation, and gained a cult following overseas and, indeed, by lots of Aussies who loved him regardless. Not only was he a bit of a star, but he was also a father and husband, which makes the loss very sad regardless of his claim to fame over the last decade.
