The Southern Cross Region

I was given a very brief opportunity to image this region of the southern sky during my recent trip back home to Melbourne. The circumstances weren't brilliant. Moonlit sky, clouds rolling in, flimsy tripod for a big lens. Still, the result is okay.

  • Imaging Scope: Sigma 70-200mm HSM F2.8 EX Lens
  • Imaging Camera: Nikon D7000
  • Mount: Crappy Velbon Tripod
  • Exposures: 20 * 20 second lights
  • ISO 640
  • Aligned and Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker
  • Post-Processing in GIMP (contrast, saturation, curves and unsharp mask)
  • Noise Reduction in NeatImage (Filter and Sharpen)
